On the 12th, the National Police Agency held the first meeting of the 'Comprehensive Police Uniform Improvement Task Force.' The task force is led by the Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency (Kim Suhwan, Commissioner General) and is composed of three divisions (Research Management Division, Field Communication Division, Planning Support Division) and two committees (Advisory Committee, Evaluation Committee).

The task force plans to commission a policy research project on the 'Preliminary Study for Comprehensive Improvement of Police Uniforms' within this month. By gathering opinions from both inside and outside the police and experts on the current police uniforms, they aim to decide the scope and direction of uniform improvements by the end of this year. Starting early next year, they will work with specialized clothing research institutions to actively improve the design and materials, with the goal of unveiling the new uniforms on October 21 next year, the '80th Police Day.'

Since this summer, the National Police Agency has been piloting summer work uniforms (T-shirt type) for officers at district police stations, patrol stations, mobile patrol units, and traffic field officers, and is also distributing new mobile uniforms on a trial basis to some security unit personnel. This is the first time the police have introduced summer work uniforms, and the mobile uniform improvements are the first in 24 years since the current mobile uniform was introduced in 2000. The summer work uniforms were developed starting in August last year under the direction of the Commissioner to provide convenience to officers working in the heat, and prototypes have been completed. The mobile uniform development, which began in July 2022, is currently gathering feedback from officers and experts on three candidate models.

Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said, "The purpose of this uniform improvement is to enhance the convenience of the uniforms based on advanced designs and materials without damaging the symbolism of police officers that has been established with the public, and to embody pride and dignity within them."
