"We will actively review the employees' suggestions to boost their morale."
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, made this promise during a meeting with the employees of Uichang District Office, who have been struggling with heavy workloads due to the spring festival and election duties.
On the 12th, to welcome the spring season, 20 employees who worked on maintaining order at various festivals even on holidays and those assigned to polling stations and vote counting for the National Assembly election gathered in one place.
On this day, Mayor Hong said, "Despite the continuous workload every day, I sincerely thank you all for working for the safety of the citizens and for a fair election. Thanks to your efforts, the citizens were able to enjoy the festival safely and happily."
At this meeting, the employees took the time to communicate by asking questions they were curious about to the mayor, sharing difficulties in public service life, and offering tailored suggestions to make Changwon a better place to work.
In particular, since many employees are hurt by verbal abuse and insults from civil petitioners, they also shared opinions together to find improvement measures.
Additionally, the employees actively sought ways to improve the organizational culture that embraces different generations while adapting to it, by presenting various opinions reflecting the changing public service culture, such as "holding company dinners during lunch hours" and "freely using leave on birthdays."
Mayor Hong said, "At a time when the importance of communication is emphasized, just gathering with employees and talking about the difficulties they have experienced so far is the beginning of empathy."
