"Seeking Leaders in Advancing Women's Status"... Call for Candidates for 'Daegu City Women’s Award'

Daegu City is publicly recruiting candidates for the '21st Daegu City Women’s Award' from the 15th to May 24th to discover women who have contributed to the improvement of women's status and the realization of a gender-equal society.

Eligibility for the award requires continuous residence in Daegu City for more than three years as of the announcement date, contribution to the improvement of women's status and rights, promotion of gender equality, contribution to women's social participation, or being a role model for community development. Candidates can be recommended by district mayors, county governors, heads of institutions or organizations, or by more than 50 citizens, and related documents must be submitted to Daegu City or the district/county reception office.

Through the public recruitment, candidates will be discovered and verified through on-site inspections and other evaluations. In July, a merit review committee composed of external experts from various fields such as women's organizations, academia, and social groups will select one awardee. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at EXCO on September 6 during the Gender Equality Commemoration event.

Marking its 21st year this year, the Daegu City Women’s Award is the highest honor in the local women's community. It was first implemented in 2004 as the Magnolia Award and has been converted to the Women’s Award since 2017 to discover awardees.

So far, a total of 36 recipients have been honored with the Women’s Award. Awardees are invited to various local events and receive recognition such as being featured on the Daegu City website under ‘People Who Brightened Our Region.’

Last year, Nam Seong-hee, president of Daegu Health College, received the award for demonstrating outstanding leadership in improving women's status and community development, as well as leading the spread of donation and volunteer culture.

Song Ki-chan, Director of the Youth and Women’s Education Bureau of the city, said, “We hope that those who have contributed to community development through women's social participation and the creation of a gender-equal culture will be actively recommended by those around them.”
