Opened in 2019 as the first of its kind nationwide, the Seocho 1-Person Household Support Center provides customized services for single-person households.
The center carries out various projects addressing health, safety, daily life, and relationship care needed by single-person households. Marking its 5th anniversary this year, the center held a commemorative ceremony at its newly relocated facility in the ‘Yangjae Public Parking Lot’ and also hosted the inaugural meeting and launch ceremony for the Single Single Club and ForMe Dan.
At the 5th anniversary ceremony, alongside congratulatory events, there were experience booths such as life photo booths, community activities including games, and musical performances, allowing not only single-person households but also local residents to gather and enjoy.
During the launch ceremony for the Single Single Club and ForMe Dan, club members and supporters who will be active at the center this year exchanged greetings, shared their participation impressions, and expressed anticipation for future activities.
The ‘Single Single Club,’ formed by single-person households this year, consists of 21 teams with 93 members. Club members gather according to their interests, such as the flower arrangement club ‘Blossom,’ art activities group ‘Grida,’ and IT study group ‘Seocho ITda.’ They engage in community activities and receive activity expenses of up to 50,000 KRW per person per month.
The center’s supporter group for single-person households, ‘ForMe Dan,’ promotes the center both online and offline. They plan to encourage activities through customized special lectures twice a year, including crafts and cooking classes, as well as awards for outstanding supporters.
Meanwhile, the center is conducting a specialized project called ‘Single Single Escape Room’ to support isolated and reclusive single-person households. The program identifies single-person households struggling with social activities and helps them restore social networks by providing a ‘Single Single Escape Room Kit,’ which includes free psychological counseling and testing, tickets to the center’s cultural classes, and free coffee coupons. Meaningful cases have emerged from the ‘Single Single Escape Room’ program, such as reclusive youth who had been isolated for a long time coming out to attend cooking classes.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “Seocho-gu will continue to develop various customized support projects for the increasing number of single-person households,” adding, “We will do our best to create happy, cheerful single-person households who are alone but together.”
