Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Conduct On-site Investigation Next Week into Allegations of Power Abuse by Ambassador Jeong Jae-ho in China

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reportedly set to conduct an on-site investigation starting early next week regarding the so-called 'gapjil' controversy involving Ambassador Jeong Jae-ho to China.

According to diplomatic sources on the 12th, the Ministry plans to dispatch an audit team to Beijing this weekend. From early next week, the team will verify the facts related to the controversy with officials at the Embassy of Korea in China over approximately two weeks.

An attach?, Mr. A, working at the Embassy of Korea in China, submitted a report to the Ministry's headquarters last month alleging that Ambassador Jeong verbally abused him and engaged in 'gapjil' behavior.

Deputy Spokesperson Lim said at the regular briefing on the 28th of last month, when the allegations were made public through the media, "When misconduct-related matters are recognized, we conduct thorough investigations and handle them without any suspicion in accordance with principles." He added, "We intend to thoroughly investigate and verify the facts regarding this matter based on the same principles."

On the same day, Ambassador Jeong denied the media reports, stating that they were "based solely on one party's claims," and expressed his position that "since a fact-finding investigation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is scheduled, I refrain from making specific comments at this stage."
