Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is partnering with religious organizations and funeral homes to support public funerals, ensuring that the final journey of unclaimed deceased individuals is not lonely.
On the 12th, Gwangsan-gu signed the 'Gwangsan-gu Public Funeral Business Agreement' with nine organizations, including Gwangju Mirae Church, Bonhyang Church, Songjeong Somang Church, Songjeong Jeil Church, Gwangju Buddhist Association, Catholic Wondong Cathedral, Suwan Funeral Home, Bit Funeral Home, and Together Gwangsan Sharing Culture Foundation, at the small conference room on the 4th floor of the district office.
This agreement was established with the purpose of supporting public funerals for unclaimed deceased individuals who cannot have funerals even if they have family due to family breakdown and poverty, thereby guaranteeing their dignity.
Gwangsan-gu and the participating organizations agreed to establish and operate a support system to honor the posthumous care of unclaimed deceased individuals. Gwangsan-gu will provide administrative and financial support for public funerals, religious organizations will conduct memorial services for the unclaimed deceased, each funeral home will prepare mourning rooms and provide memorial spaces, and Together Gwangsan Sharing Culture Foundation will assist with the processing of donations covering excess funeral expenses.
