The daytime population of Taean-gun, Chungnam Province, was found to be nearly 10 times larger than the registered population.

Chungnam Province disclosed the results of its daytime population analysis on the 12th, which was conducted in response to population decline.

The daytime population includes the resident registration population, the transient population (those who visit the area and stay for more than 3 hours a day aside from resident registration), and registered foreigners.

The province classified its 15 cities and counties into four types: short-term visit type, industrial type, metropolitan type, and small city type.

The short-term visit type includes Boryeong, Gongju, Taean, Buyeo, and Nonsan; the metropolitan type includes Cheonan and Asan; the industrial type includes Dangjin, Geumsan, and Seosan; and the small city type includes Hongseong, Yesan, Seocheon, Cheongyang, and Gyeryong.

In the case of Taean-gun, the daytime population (610,877) is 9.7 times the registered population (62,775). The proportion of short-term visitors (within 3 days) for tourism purposes was 91.1%, indicating a high dependence on the daytime population compared to other cities and counties.

The daytime populations of Cheonan and Asan showed little change.

In Dangjin and Seosan, the proportion of daytime population aged 40 to 60 was high at 56.5% and 54.0%, respectively, compared to other cities and counties. When compared by gender, both areas showed a significantly higher number of male daytime population.

Yesan and Hongseong had a lower proportion of daytime population aged 30 to 40 at 37.5% and 36.1%, respectively, compared to other cities and counties, but a higher proportion of those aged 60 and above at 23.3% and 22.4%, respectively.

Geumsan-gun has a registered population of 50,195, but the transient population aged 30 to 50 is 130,000, which is higher compared to other cities and counties.

Jeon Seung-hyun, the province’s data officer, said, "Among the 15 cities and counties in Chungnam, nine are areas experiencing population decline," adding, "We will update the data monthly and promote administration based on scientific statistics."
