The Carbon Neutral Points Energy sector is a daily greenhouse gas reduction program that awards points based on the reduction rate to participants who reduce their energy usage?such as electricity, water, and city gas?by more than 5% compared to the same period in the past 1 to 2 years, and provides corresponding incentives.

Any citizen wishing to join the Carbon Neutral Points Energy program can register through the Carbon Neutral Points Energy website or the environmental sanitation department of their district or county office.

This event was organized to encourage citizens to voluntarily participate in the Carbon Neutral Points Energy sector, thereby promoting the practice of carbon-neutral living (creating a boom) and establishing Busan as a leading carbon-neutral city driven by its citizens.

Voluntary participation by users is crucial to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector, which accounts for the largest portion of Busan’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The event will be held in two phases. For the first phase, 450 citizens who newly registered between January 1 and May 15 will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates in May. For the second phase, 450 citizens who newly register between May 16 and October 15 will be selected by lottery to receive mobile gift certificates in October.

Last year, the city provided incentives totaling 954 million KRW to 78,856 households that reduced 33,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) through the Carbon Neutral Points Energy program. This year, the city has secured an incentive budget of 1.166 billion KRW, approximately a 17% increase from the previous year’s budget (994.44 million KRW), to reward citizens who practice greenhouse gas reduction.

Lee Byung-seok, Director of the Environmental Policy Office of Busan City, stated, “As of February this year, more than 490,000 households have participated in greenhouse gas reduction activities, achieving results in reducing greenhouse gases in the non-industrial sector. For Busan to become a leading carbon-neutral city, the participation of each citizen is important. We ask for your interest so that many citizens can newly register for the Carbon Neutral Points Energy sector through this event.”
