Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate the "Yeongdeungpo Walking Tour" project, allowing easy access to the history and tourist attractions of the cultural city Yeongdeungpo in celebration of spring.

The "Yeongdeungpo Walking Tour" is a program where participants walk through every corner of Yeongdeungpo on foot with a tour guide, directly encountering hidden histories and stories in parks, alleys, and various spots.

First introduced in 2021, this project connects the region's excellent history and tourism resources into themed courses, introducing the cultural city Yeongdeungpo with professional commentary. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to improve residents' health and enjoy leisure time amid busy daily life by traveling exclusively on foot.

Last year, the district developed two new courses, and currently operates a total of seven courses: ▲Yeongdeungpo Modern and Contemporary History ▲Mullae Creative Village ▲Yeouido Story ▲Hangang Waterway ▲Seonyudo Park ▲Anyangcheon Waterway ▲Dorimcheon Waterway.

Each course is about 3 km long and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, with themes selected to highlight the unique characteristics of the area.

First, Course 1, Yeongdeungpo Modern and Contemporary History, walks around Yeongdeungpo Station area to explore the modern culture of Yeongdeungpo that has changed since the 1900s. Course 2, Mullae Creative Village, allows visitors to appreciate various sights unique to Mullae-dong, including artists' creative spaces and works hidden among ironworks. Course 3, Yeouido Story, strolls through several parks within the high-rise buildings, landmarks of Yeongdeungpo, to enjoy urban leisure. Course 4, Hangang Waterway, offers views of the islands in the Han River along with their intertwined stories. Course 5, Seonyudo Course, walks around Seonyudo Park, recently gaining attention as a dating spot, where visitors can enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons.

The recently added Anyangcheon and Dorimcheon Waterway courses allow visitors to walk along Yeongdeungpo’s waterfront areas and encounter diverse ecological flora and fauna. Notably, these two courses include visits to the March 1st Independence Movement protest site (Anyangcheon Course) and Daerim-dong, a multicultural hub (Dorimcheon Course), offering new experiences.

A participant who took the Dorimcheon Course walking tour said, "Escaping traffic noise to walk along the quiet Dorimcheon and see migratory birds was a leisurely time I hadn’t experienced in a while," and added, "Especially during the Daerim Market tour, it was fascinating to easily experience the cultures of other countries in a traditional market in the city." They expressed great satisfaction with the walking tour.

The walking tour program currently operates every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., and the tour departs once the group reaches 2 to 10 participants. Applications can be made through the "Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Integrated Reservation System." For more details, contact the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Culture and Sports Division.

Furthermore, the district continuously strives to provide more professional and distinctive commentary by producing course-specific narration scripts and conducting annual training to enhance the capabilities of tour guides.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "The walking tour program offers an easy opportunity to encounter various tourism resources unique to the cultural city Yeongdeungpo," and added, "I hope this tour, which allows residents to appreciate the hidden history and the changing scenery of Yeongdeungpo in the warm spring perfect for walking, will bring vitality to their daily lives."
