US New Unemployment Claims at 211,000... Down by 10,000 from Previous Week

The U.S. Department of Labor announced on the 11th (local time) that the number of new unemployment benefit claims from the 31st of last month to the 6th of this month was recorded at 211,000, a decrease of 11,000 from the previous week.

This figure is slightly below the expert forecast of 217,000 compiled by Dow Jones.

The number of new unemployment benefit claims had been declining since July of last year but has fluctuated around the 200,000 mark since mid-September of last year.

The number of continuing unemployment benefit claims, which are filed by those claiming benefits for at least two weeks, was recorded at 1,817,000 for the week from the 24th to the 30th of last month, an increase of 28,000 from the previous week.

The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) is closely monitoring employment-related indicators, viewing an overheated labor market as a potential cause of entrenched inflation.
