On the 11th, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing, "Despite China's strong concerns, the U.S. and Japan have smeared and attacked China on issues such as Taiwan and maritime matters, and have violently interfered in China's internal affairs, seriously violating the basic norms of international relations."

This was a criticism of U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who agreed on the 10th (local time) at the White House summit to strengthen security cooperation aimed at containing China regarding issues such as the Taiwan Strait and the East and South China Seas.

Spokesperson Mao said, "China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this," adding, "We have already submitted solemn representations (diplomatic protests) to the relevant parties."

When asked who the relevant parties were, he did not respond directly but implied that the U.S. and Japan were the parties involved by stating, "The reason we submitted solemn representations to the relevant countries is that the U.S.-Japan joint statement attacked and smeared China on issues such as Taiwan and maritime matters, and the content does not correspond to the facts."

He added, "The U.S.-Japan relationship must not harm the interests of other countries or destroy regional peace and stability," and stated, "China opposes maintaining a Cold War mentality and using 'small group politics' tactics, as well as any words and actions that undermine the strategic security interests of other countries."

He also emphasized, "'One China' is a historical fact and an international consensus, and the Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, so no external interference is allowed."

Spokesperson Mao stated, "There is no room for debate that China's activities in the East China Sea and South China Sea fully comply with international law," and said, "Diaoyu Islands (Japanese name: Senkaku Islands) and their affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times, and China will resolutely respond to illegal acts that infringe on its sovereignty."
