On the 10th (local time), local media such as the Los Angeles (LA) Times and ABC7 reported, citing sources, that the LA Police Department is investigating the motive behind the crime committed by the suspect, Daniel Johnson (deceased, 34), and is focusing on his social media posts. A police official confirmed to the media that Johnson was an astrologer influencer who operated under the name 'Daniel Ayoka' online.
On the X (formerly Twitter) account linked to the website he managed, Johnson posted on the 5th, "Wake up, wake up, the apocalypse is here (THE APOCALYPSE IS HERE). Everyone with ears, listen. Now is the time to choose what you believe." On the 4th, he also wrote, "This eclipse is the perfect epitome of spiritual warfare," adding, "The world is clearly changing now. If you need to choose a side, now is the time to do what is right in your life." His X account has 104,600 followers.

He further promoted that he had developed an evidence-based approach to holistic healing for the difficulties we experience in daily life by providing services such as intuitive guidance, remote healing, and astrology, helping subscribers from more than 14 countries including Korea, Japan, and China.
Earlier, in North America including the United States, a total solar eclipse occurred shortly after noon on the 8th. Police stated that Johnson stabbed and killed his live-in boyfriend, Jay Allen Chaney (29), with a weapon at his home in LA County around 3:40 a.m. on the day of the eclipse, the 8th. Afterwards, Johnson drove his Porsche with his two daughters, aged 9 and 8 months, in the passenger seat on the highway. While driving, he opened the car door and pushed both daughters out of the vehicle. The 8-month-old infant was hit by a car from behind and died, while the 9-year-old daughter survived and was transported to the hospital.
About 30 minutes after pushing the children out, Johnson drove at a speed exceeding approximately 160 km/h on a nearby city road and crashed into a roadside tree, dying at the scene. Police concluded the incident as a suicide.
