Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the '2024 Traveling Orchestra' performances will begin on April 14.
The Traveling Orchestra is a touring performance project planned by the district to provide residents, tired from daily life, with various opportunities to enjoy culture. High-quality classical music performed by the orchestra can be enjoyed in everyday spaces such as right in front of one’s home or neighborhood parks.
After receiving positive feedback from residents for last year’s 'Traveling Orchestra' performances, the district decided to expand the concerts. This year, performances will be held eight times across different areas within the district, with four concerts each in the first and second halves of the year. Last year, three concerts were held at Wolgye Dream Forest SK View, Junggye Jugong 2nd Complex, and Nowon Central Prugio apartments.
The first performance to mark the start of this year will be held at Choansan Ceramic Park at 4 p.m. on the 14th. The overall stage will be led by conductor Bang Seong-ho with the Western Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra, consisting of 21 members, will present not only traditional classical music but also pieces that cross genres.
The soloists for the first concert are soprano Lee Ye-jin and saxophonist Kim Seong-hoon. They will perform a variety of melodies ranging from Bizet’s Carmen Overture with its fast tempo and brilliant orchestration to "Flying Through the Deep Night."
On April 28, jazz vocalist Go Ah-ra and saxophonist Kim Seong-hoon are scheduled to perform together at Taegang Apartments in Gongneung-dong. On May 6, at Squirrel Children’s Park near Junggye Cheonggu 3rd and Geonyeong 3rd Apartments, crossover group UNGEL VOICES and saxophonist Kim Seong-hoon will present pieces including "O Sole Mio" and Shostakovich Waltz.
On May 15, jazz vocalist Go Ah-ra and saxophonist Kim Seong-hoon will collaborate once again at Forena Nowon Apartments to conclude the first half of the Traveling Orchestra performances.
All performances are free and can be attended without prior reservation. Detailed schedules and information can be found on the district office website and the Nowon Cultural Foundation website.
Additionally, the district is preparing a rich lineup of performances and events to welcome spring. From April 16, the '2024 Bulamsan Azalea Festival: "Again, Spring"' will be held, along with the 'Bulamsan Azalea Performance Walk' every weekend from April 20 to April 28. Starting with a performance by Chugye University for the Arts, various artistic performances are scheduled, including ▲ Balloon Show ▲ Bubble Show ▲ Kim Chan-su Mime Company’s "Clown" ▲ 231 and Seo Nam-jae’s "Circus" ▲ Hanbit Arts Group’s project The Band.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “I hope that the traveling cultural performance project will enrich the daily lives of our residents. We will fill every corner of Nowon-gu with culture so that residents can easily enjoy cultural opportunities in their busy daily lives, right in front of their homes or in parks.”
