Min Hong-cheol, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, was elected in the Gimhae Gap district of Gyeongnam, becoming the first four-term National Assembly member in the Yeongnam region.


According to the National Election Commission, Min was trailing Park Seong-ho of the People Power Party from the start of the vote count in the 22nd general election held on the 10th.


Struggling to gain ground, Min took the lead over Park after midnight when the counting rate exceeded 90%, securing his victory.


As of 3:43 a.m. on the 11th, the counting rate was 91.24%, with Min receiving 51.82% of the votes and Park 48.17%, a difference of 4,700 votes between the candidates.
