There is a prospect that the trilateral summit between South Korea, China, and Japan, held for the first time in four years, will take place around May 26-27 next month.

On the 10th, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported, "The governments of South Korea, Japan, and China have entered final coordination to hold the Korea-China-Japan summit in South Korea in late May."

The summit is expected to be attended by President Yoon Suk-yeol, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The Korea-China-Japan summit has been suspended for about four years since it was last held in December 2019.

Earlier, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the day before that the three countries had reached a close consensus on the schedule for the summit and that discussions were in the final stages.

A Foreign Ministry official responded to reporters the previous day when asked about the meaning of Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul's statement that "the schedule for the trilateral summit is in final coordination."

On the 8th, Minister Cho met with Lee Hee-seop, Secretary-General of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Seoul and said that the three countries were in "final coordination" regarding the summit schedule.

South Korea, China, and Japan have been discussing holding the trilateral summit, which has been suspended since the December 2019 meeting in Chengdu, China, in Seoul next month.

As the chair country, South Korea has been making efforts to resume the trilateral summit, and it is reported that there has been recent progress in negotiations with China, which had been somewhat reluctant to host the meeting.
