Gourmet Delights and Joy Bloom in the Beautiful Port, Pohang Guryongpo on Weekends

Pohang City will hold the Guryongpo Night Market ‘Market Pire Nine’ at the Guryongpo Breakwater parking lot and surrounding breakwater area every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from the 12th to June 2nd, under the title of ‘the nation’s first marine gourmet market.’

This year, in addition to the food trucks and market vendors operated last year, booths featuring local merchants will also be available, offering a variety of seafood menus with unique concepts and designs. Furthermore, the market vendor zone will feature handmade crafts and experiential programs, promising enjoyment for all age groups.

Along with diverse gourmet experiences, a special performance is scheduled for the opening day on the 12th, followed by performances by local groups and ongoing busking. Along with various events, Pohang City plans to implement phased measures to prepare for emergencies to ensure the safe operation of the festival.

Park Sang-jin, Director of the Convention and Tourism Industry Division, said, “As a festival worthy of being the first marine gourmet festival, this event set against the backdrop of the sea will offer visitors to Guryongpo both the joy of taste and the excitement of a unique festival,” adding, “We hope it will establish itself as one of Pohang’s representative festivals as a nighttime tourism content of Guryongpo.”

Market Pire Nine derives its name from the English words Market, Pire, and Nine, meaning market, harbor, and dragon respectively, and attracted great attention with about 24,000 tourists visiting during its short 10-day pilot operation from December 1st last year, thanks to its charm as a night market held at the pier.
