Senior members of the People Power Party appealed for "just one more chance" three days before the general election. While personally feeling the sentiment of the people in Seongnam, they warned that if the opposition party secures 180 or 200 seats, the National Assembly would become a chaotic mess, and they asked for support to be able to check such a situation.
Na Kyung-won, co-chair of the People Power Party's joint election committee, said at a press conference at the party headquarters, "Please prevent the worst choice," and urged, "At least create a minimum balance, at least a minimum line of defense."
Chairwoman Na said, "I understand the public's desire to criticize the government and the ruling party," but added, "Will the government do better just because you criticize it? If the opposition party takes 180 or 200 seats, the National Assembly will become a chaotic scene, going beyond a lame-duck government to talk about impeachment."
She continued, "The National Assembly will again become a chaotic mess driven by the desire for constitutional amendment that shakes the foundation of free Korea," and appealed, "Please give the People Power Party just one more chance." Chairwoman Na said, "If you maintain at least the minimum line of defense, we will do our best to become a government and ruling party that reflects the hearts and minds of the people in the National Assembly."
On the same day, Representative Yoon Sang-hyun said on social media, "During the election campaign, I deeply felt your angry public sentiment," and added, "I earnestly recalled the teaching of Seonghyeon that the sea of public sentiment can both float a boat and overturn it." Representative Yoon said, "If given another chance, I will completely change the party and the National Assembly," and promised, "I will lead politics that recognizes public sentiment as the will of heaven, practices pragmatic politics beyond party lines, and pursues dignified politics that meets the people's expectations."
Representative Kwon Seong-dong held a press conference at the National Assembly and said, "I earnestly appeal for the power to protect the Republic of Korea," expressing concern that "the current general election situation is serious. There are analyses that the opposition coalition, including the Democratic Party, could not only secure a majority but also surpass the constitutional amendment blocking line." He said, "I do not think the government and ruling party have done everything well over the past two years," and evaluated, "When there was disorder in state affairs, there was a lack of detailed explanation and efforts to gain understanding, communication with the public was insufficient during policy implementation, and there was a lack of prudence in policy specifics." He added, "If the government and ruling party have attitude problems, the current opposition party is fundamentally wrong in direction," and said, "While we can accompany somewhat lacking people, we cannot accompany those who have different destinations."
