The short video, captioned in Chinese as “slipping and sliding,” shows Fubao playfully placing its front paw on a slope and rolling over once. Another scene shows Fubao holding a toy-like object near its ear, resembling a phone call.

There was also a photo of Fubao looking outside through a rain-speckled window. Xinhua’s Weibo captioned this photo as 'Amjungwancha' (暗中觀察·secretly observing).
After briefly looking around, Fubao quickly grabbed a red apple among bamboo, bamboo shoots, apples, and carrots. Then, after taking a few steps, Fubao squatted in front of a passageway and ate the apple.
The Xueshuiping Base reportedly stated, as reported by China’s Beijing Daily, that they plan to initially care for Fubao following Korean-style breeding methods and gradually transition to the base’s own breeding methods.
Zheng Yuan, a caretaker at the Xueshuiping Base, explained, “Public viewing will be decided based on Fubao’s adaptation status. Each panda’s adaptation period varies, ranging from as short as one or two months to as long as seven to eight months or more.”
Xinhua reported that “Fubao’s current condition is good,” and that “the base has sufficiently prepared bamboo, bamboo shoots, carrots, and supplementary foods.”
Earlier, Chinese authorities had released photos of Fubao’s arrival in China. The China Panda Protection and Research Center posted several photos on Weibo the previous day showing Fubao entering the quarantine and inspection area of the Xueshuiping Base. In the photos, Fubao was seen walking healthily on all fours through a circular entrance.
Chinese netizens are also showing great interest in Fubao. Previously, Chinese netizens expressed being “deeply moved” by a handwritten letter left by caretaker Kang Cheol-won, known as the ‘Panda Grandpa’ and ‘Gangbao,’ as he left China. In the letter starting with “Dear Fubao!”, Kang wrote, “Grandpa is leaving you. I will definitely come to see you. Adapt well, eat well, and play well.”
Fubao was born on July 20, 2020, between Lubao and Aibao, pandas sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016 as a symbol of Korea-China friendship.
