NongHyup announced on the 5th that it will extend the discount event selling 1 bundle (1kg) of green onions for 875 won at seven stores, including Hanaro Mart Yangjae Branch, until the 24th of this month.
Previously, NongHyup Distribution sparked political controversy by selling a bundle of green onions for 875 won starting from the 18th of last month, when President Yoon Seok-yeol visited to check consumer prices. Originally, NongHyup Distribution planned to end the discount event on the 12th of this month, but the period has been extended.

This price reflects government supply price support and NongHyup’s own discount. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), the average retail price of 1kg of green onions as of the previous day was 2,490 won, making Hanaro Mart’s selling price (875 won) a 64.9% discount compared to that.
NongHyup will also hold a 'relay event' offering up to 34% discounts on agricultural and livestock products such as Daejeo tomatoes (salty tomatoes), Korean melons, peeled garlic, Cheongyang peppers, and 1st grade Korean beef sirloin until the 24th. However, the event period and discount stores may vary depending on the product. Through its own discount event 'Salmannage,' processed and daily necessities such as red pepper paste, kimchi, processed rice, and hygiene products will be sold at discounts of up to 63%.
Park Seo-hong, Head of Agricultural Economy at NongHyup Economic Holdings, said, "We are making company-wide efforts to sell agricultural, livestock, and marine products as well as processed and daily necessities at affordable prices to ease the burden on shopping baskets," adding, "We will continue to plan various discount events to become a NongHyup loved by the public and a NongHyup for farmers."
Meanwhile, NongHyup will also hold discount events in May, the month of family. During the family month, discounts will be offered on ▲seasonal agricultural and livestock products (watermelon, Korean melon, onions, Korean beef, etc.) ▲health food collections (nutritional supplements, red ginseng, etc.) ▲home party items (steak sirloin, salmon, wine, etc.) ▲easy meals for single-person households (prepared vegetables, home meal replacements, etc.).
