The approximately 160,000 MWh of electricity produced through the new hydrogen fuel cell power plant will be sufficient to reliably supply power to about 40,000 households
(based on four persons per household) in Ulsan.
In addition to the new power plant investment, Lotte SK Eneroot stated that it will prioritize hiring Ulsan citizens when recruiting personnel needed for future factory construction and operation, cooperating with Ulsan City to create jobs and revitalize the local economy. The company also promised to actively collaborate with Ulsan City to ensure that hydrogen infrastructure facilities such as pipelines, built for the power plant establishment, can be linked to local hydrogen energy distribution projects, including the establishment of hydrogen charging stations.
Co-CEO Kim Yong-hak said, "Through cooperation with Ulsan City, we will actively strive to successfully promote the byproduct hydrogen fuel cell power generation project and contribute to achieving Ulsan’s hydrogen city plan."
Co-CEO Shim Young-sun of Lotte SK Eneroot also said, "The establishment of this hydrogen fuel cell power plant will be a meaningful project in terms of creating large-scale hydrogen demand and expanding hydrogen supply infrastructure within Ulsan," adding, "We will actively cooperate to revitalize the hydrogen industry ecosystem in the Ulsan region through this project."
In response, Ulsan City stated that it will actively support administrative procedures such as permits necessary for the successful promotion of the hydrogen fuel cell power plant project and will continuously cooperate with Lotte SK Eneroot to revitalize the local economy and create jobs.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom emphasized, "Hydrogen is an eco-friendly energy source with zero carbon emissions, and Ulsan is building a full-cycle value chain from hydrogen production, storage, transportation, to utilization," adding, "We will do our best to attract many hydrogen-related companies and establish Ulsan as a global leading hydrogen city."
