Early voting for the 22nd National Assembly election is taking place over two days, on the 5th and 6th, with Park Byeong-tae, Chairman of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission, focusing on monitoring the progress.
On the 4th, Chairman Park inspected the early voting preparations at the Buk-gu Yongbong-dong early voting station (Chonnam National University Yongjigwan Convention Hall), and on the 5th, he checked the voting progress at the Dong-gu Gyerim 2-dong early voting station (Gyerim 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center Multipurpose Room).
A Gwangju Election Commission official stated, “We will do our best to ensure a flawless election from early voting to voting and counting during the remaining period,” and urged, “We also ask all citizens to carefully review the policies and pledges of parties and candidates during the remaining election period and be sure to vote.”
Meanwhile, early voting will be conducted at a total of 96 locations in the Gwangju area. The locations of early voting stations can be checked on the Central Election Commission website or through portal sites.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., voters can cast their ballots at any early voting station nationwide without separate registration.
Voters must bring an official ID issued by a government or public institution that includes their date of birth and photo to verify their identity, such as a resident registration card, passport, or driver’s license.
For mobile IDs, the app must be launched to verify the photo, name, and date of birth; image files saved by screen capture or other means cannot be used.
Within the early voting station, the flow of voters is separated based on their registered address into in-district and out-of-district voters.
Voters casting their ballots at an early voting station located within their district (gu, si, gun; if there are two or more National Assembly constituencies within one district, the constituency applies hereafter) simply receive the ballot, mark it, and place it in the ballot box.
Voters casting their ballots at an early voting station outside their district receive both the ballot and a return envelope. Out-of-district early voters must place their marked ballot inside the return envelope, seal it, and then submit it into the ballot box.
