The Ministry of Justice announced on the 5th that it had completed the deportation process of Mr. A (50), born in Albania.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Mr. A was sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing a taxi driver to death with a weapon in Albania in August 1995, seizing the taxi, and fleeing. He was also charged with three other attempted robbery-murders, which were unsuccessful. In March 1997, taking advantage of the chaos during the Albanian riots, he escaped from prison, then forged a passport by stealing the identity of another Albanian with an intellectual disability and fled abroad.

After passing through the United States and Canada, Mr. A entered South Korea in November 2011. The following February, he married a Korean woman and acquired South Korean nationality in December 2015.

However, Mr. A was caught last July after a joint investigation by the Albanian authorities, the Korean Ministry of Justice, and foreign governments.

The Ministry of Justice, which apprehended Mr. A, cooperated with Albanian authorities to supplement evidence, and through the Seoul High Court’s extradition trial and naturalization revocation procedures, stripped him of his South Korean nationality and deported him to Albania.
