Hoseo University has become the first in Chungnam Province to establish a 'Microdegree' educational program related to carbon neutrality.
A microdegree is a modular educational program that serves as a new learning system replacing the traditional higher education degree system. It is a short-term intensive training program focused on specific skills or occupations.
Students who complete the credits will earn a 'Microdegree' by understanding the climate crisis from multiple perspectives and learning the latest technologies and information on global carbon neutrality policies and trends in the industrial sector.
The curriculum focuses on the concept of carbon neutrality, which manages carbon emissions and absorption equally to achieve net-zero emissions, and on the development of demonstration technologies and construction methods to realize this goal.
The main courses offered include △ Understanding Climate Change and Carbon Neutrality △ Carbon Neutrality and Construction Engineering △ Climate Change and Fine Dust △ Carbon Neutrality and Green Transition △ Resource Circulation Technologies for Construction Materials.
To establish this program, Professor Bae Gyeong-jin, Director of the Convergence Education Center, and Professor Jeong Geon-hee, Head of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, have been conducting policy research since last year, and Professor Kim Hyeok-jung from the Department of Disaster Safety Systems is in charge of the lectures.
Director Bae Gyeong-jin stated, “We are striving to develop teaching materials using the latest resources on carbon neutrality-related subjects to respond to global challenges such as sustainable development, ESG, and carbon neutrality,” adding, “We plan to expand into ESG carbon neutrality and green management fields needed by the industry in the future.”
