Mapo-gu has commissioned a feasibility study for the establishment of a new Digital Media City (hereinafter referred to as 'DMC') station on the Western Metropolitan Railroad 'Daejang-Hongdae Line' in March. This decision comes from the district's judgment that the Daejang-Hongdae Line must also be secured at the Sangam DMC station, where the GTX-E line was confirmed in January.

The Daejang-Hongdae Line, scheduled to begin construction next year, is a subway line approximately 20 km in total length, starting from Bucheon (Daejang), passing through Hwagok, and heading to Hongdae Entrance, with the section passing through Mapo-gu alone reaching 7.9 km.

The area near the DMC station, promoted by the district as a route for the Daejang-Hongdae Line, is a region where large-scale urban housing development has taken place. Including Sangam 1 and 2 districts and adjacent areas such as Deogeun, Hyangdong, Susaek, Jeungsan, and the soon-to-be-inhabited Changneung district, it forms a living zone for about 70,000 households. Additionally, it is home to major broadcasting companies and IT business districts, with a daily floating population reaching 120,000.

In the future, with the establishment of the Sangam-dong DMC landmark and Lotte Mall, as well as Seoul City's key projects such as 'Twin Eye' and the creation of the World Cup Park Flower Park, the district expects explosive growth in transportation demand near Sangam-dong.

Since last year, the district has been preparing by holding the Western Metropolitan Railroad (Daejang-Hongdae) Promotion Committee. While consulting with related organizations such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, and Hyundai Construction, the district has also expressed the necessity of establishing the DMC station on the Daejang-Hongdae Line through meetings with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Committee.

To actively promote the project this year, Mapo-gu will accept proposals for the feasibility study of the DMC station establishment until April 5, and on the 12th, a selection committee composed of railway experts and officials from other local governments will evaluate the proposals and select a company. The service period is six months from the start of construction.

The selected company will undertake tasks including ▲urban and transportation status surveys and analysis ▲forecasting transportation demand due to future station establishment ▲technical review related to station establishment ▲feasibility study through economic and financial analysis ▲review of project promotion plans and funding procurement plans.

If feasibility is proven through the investigation, the district plans to deliver the results to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City to achieve positive outcomes and secure the foundation for the DMC station establishment budget through continuous future consultations.

Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Sangam-dong is not only preparing for major large-scale projects such as Lotte Mall and 'Twin Eye,' but it is also the center of the 4th industrial revolution, including the artificial intelligence robot industry, which will be the main force of future society in the long term. Since transportation policy requires a macro approach, we will do our utmost this year to promote this long-cherished project so that the Daejang-Hongdae Line DMC station, which has high future value, can be established in Sangam-dong.”
