Heo Young-in, chairman of SPC Group, who is accused of urging Paris Baguette bakers affiliated with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) to leave the union and ordering disadvantages, was arrested on the 5th.
Nam Cheon-gyu, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, who conducted the warrant hearing for Chairman Heo the previous afternoon, issued an arrest warrant on charges of violating the Labor Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act around 2 a.m. that day, as requested by the prosecution.
Judge Nam stated the reason for issuing the warrant was "concern over the destruction of evidence."
Heo is accused of urging members of the KCTU-affiliated Korean Federation of Textile, Chemical, Food, and Allied Industries Workers' Unions Paris Baguette branch to leave the union and giving disadvantages in promotions and personnel matters from July 2019 to August 2022 at PB Partners, an SPC subsidiary.
He is also accused of unfair labor practices, such as supporting the securing of union members for the Korea Federation of Trade Unions (KFTU)-affiliated Food Industry Workers' Union PB Partners union, which is favorable to management, and having the union chairman A give interviews or issue statements aligned with management's position.
The prosecution obtained an arrest warrant and took custody of Heo on the 2nd after he refused to appear for summons four times on the 18th, 19th, and 21st of last month and the 1st of this month.
