Kim Hyun-ki, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, planted flowers and trees with citizens at Amsa History Park in Gangdong-gu on the 3rd to commemorate the 79th Arbor Day.

The event, held under the theme "Creating Companion Charm Gardens with Citizens," was attended by about 400 people, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, city council members Kim Young-chul, Park Chun-sun, Lee Jong-tae, Jang Tae-yong, Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Soo-hee, and students from Gangdong Elementary School.

Chairperson Kim said, "Cities like New York and Singapore, which everyone wants to visit at least once, have large and small gardens scattered throughout," adding, "These urban green spaces and gardens are the barometer that instantly reflects a city's dignity, quality of life, and future competitiveness."

He continued, "Seoul plans to create a thousand companion and charm gardens by 2026 to promote the 'Garden City Seoul Vision,' where 'wherever you go, it’s Seoul,'" and stated, "The Seoul Metropolitan Council will actively support this with the belief that a single tree and an expanded park enhance citizens' quality of life and increase urban competitiveness."

Earlier, Seoul announced the 'Charm Garden and Companion Garden Project,' aiming to establish 1,000 gardens by 2026 so that citizens can encounter a variety of gardens within a 10-minute walk.
