Now in its 12th year, the contest aims to discover various convergent tourism services by utilizing approximately 2.8 million open tourism data records from the organization's 'Tour API,' Kakao's Open API, and other public data APIs. Last year's contest saw the emergence of the AI video analysis-based travel information app 'Bitreebee' and the personal travel curation app 'Danim.'
Anyone interested in developing tourism data utilization services can participate in the contest.
This year, the organization will select 65 teams, awarding a grand prize of 15 million KRW to one team and a total prize pool of 75 million KRW. Support will also be provided for service development through education, consulting, and promotion of winning entries.
Additional benefits include bonus points during the document screening for the Startup NEST program, a startup nurturing program by the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, and opportunities to participate in the Seoul Startup Growth Center's 'Tech Trade-On Technology Consulting.'
To expand the discovery of excellent regional tourism services, special awards will be given by seven regional tourism organizations in Busan, Gwangju, Ulsan, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Gyeongnam, and Jeju.
Kim Kyung-su, head of the Digital Content Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "Since we have greatly expanded collaboration with regional tourism organizations this year, we expect various services reflecting regional characteristics to be created. We will support new service development and industry growth through the opening of highly utilizable external data."
