Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) will provide smart devices to prevent missing incidents involving people with developmental disabilities.
A district official stated, "According to data from the National Police Agency, there have been about 8,000 missing cases involving people with developmental disabilities each year over the past five years," and added, "We will distribute smart devices free of charge to 100 people with developmental disabilities."
This project is one of the Guro-gu resident participatory budget projects decided through resident participation in the budget allocation process. The smart devices come in the form of wristwatches, insoles with built-in GPS location tracking systems, or necklaces, enabling early detection in case of disappearance. Communication fees will also be supported for two years.
The target recipients are people with developmental disabilities residing in the district, and their guardians or family members must be able to use smartphones. Priority will be given to households with low income levels, such as basic livelihood security recipients, while residents of care facilities or those who participated in the 2022 project are excluded.
The district plans to select the implementing agency in April and choose the recipients in May to distribute the smart devices.
A Guro-gu official said, "This will help establish a care safety net," and added, "We will strive to create an environment where people with developmental disabilities and their families can live with peace of mind."
