A teenager who posted a warning online about "stabbing" at a middle school and high school in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, avoided detention.
On the afternoon of the 1st, Shin Hyun-il, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Eastern District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing for suspect A, who is accused of making threats, and dismissed the warrant, stating, "As a juvenile, there is insufficient reason to consider detention necessary."
As A entered the courthouse that day, when asked by reporters whether he admitted to posting the messages, he said, "I admit it." However, when asked if he intended to carry out the crime, he responded, "I had no intention of committing the crime."
According to the police, A is accused of posting 60 threatening messages on internet communities and social networking services (SNS) from the 17th to the 29th of last month, threatening "terror attacks" at specific schools located in Gangdong-gu.
The posts reportedly included content stating intentions such as "killing with guns and knives at the girls' high school and bombing attacks at the girls' middle school."
The police tracked the author and arrested A on the 30th of last month, and considering the seriousness of the matter, applied for a detention warrant the following day.
