S-OIL (CEO Anwar Al Hizazi) received the Volunteer Award at the 29th KBS 119 Awards ceremony held at the KBS TV Public Hall on the 1st.
The Volunteer Award, one of the categories of the KBS 119 Awards, is given to civilians or organizations that have contributed to firefighting activities such as rescue and emergency medical services.
Since 2006, S-OIL has launched the Firefighter Hero Keeper campaign and has implemented various support programs for firefighters and their families who protect the safety and lives of South Korea.
The company has continuously made efforts to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of firefighters and to boost their pride through initiatives such as ▲ Firefighter Hero of the Year Award ▲ Consolation money for bereaved families of fallen firefighters ▲ Scholarships for children of fallen firefighters ▲ Medical expenses for injured firefighters ▲ Firefighter couples’ rest camps.
The Firefighter Hero of the Year Award is given annually based on firefighting activities throughout the year, selecting and honoring the top hero and heroic firefighters. S-OIL has provided prize money to the selected heroes and their affiliated fire stations, paying a total of 1.52 billion KRW to 136 firefighters from 2006 to the present.
The company has also supported the families of firefighters by providing consolation money in the event of a firefighter’s death in the line of duty. Since 2006, it has delivered a total of 2.1 billion KRW in consolation money to the families of 70 fallen firefighters. Additionally, to support the continuous education of their children, it has provided a total of 4.5 billion KRW in scholarships to 1,539 children since 2006.
S-OIL has steadily supported medical expenses for injured firefighters. Since 2009, it has given encouragement money annually to about 30 firefighters injured during firefighting activities to aid their recovery, and to date, it has provided medical expenses totaling 840 million KRW to 436 firefighters.
An S-OIL representative said, “We express our gratitude for the firefighters who work tirelessly at various fire and accident scenes,” adding, “We take pride in the S-OIL Firefighter Hero Keeper activities that repay the firefighters’ spirit of sacrifice and will continue to promote this campaign.”
