Kim Dong-yeon's 'GTX Plus Route Plan' to Be Proposed to the Government

Gyeonggi Province has finalized the 'Capital Region Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) Plus Route Plan,' a key transportation policy of the 8th local government, and decided to propose it to the government to be reflected in the national railway network construction plan scheduled for establishment in May.

Gyeonggi Province recently completed the 'Capital Region Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX) Plus Basic Concept Study,' which began in April last year, and finalized the route plan based on this study.

The GTX Plus route is a core pledge of Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province to expand the benefits of GTX lines by establishing new GTX routes in metropolitan areas that currently do not receive GTX benefits.

The Plus route plan prepared through the study is condensed into three main axes: the establishment of new GTX G and H lines and the extension of the C line to Siheung. The core content is to expand the GTX beneficiary areas to the northern and southwestern regions of Gyeonggi Province. Through this, Gyeonggi Province aims to connect the entire metropolitan area into a living zone with an average travel time of 30 minutes.

The newly established G line connects Pocheon in northeastern Gyeonggi and Incheon. The main stops are Sungui~KTX Gwangmyeong Station~Sadang~Nonhyeon~Konkuk University Station~Guri~Dongui-jeongbu~Pocheon. The total length is 84.7 km, and the project cost is estimated at 7.679 trillion KRW, according to Gyeonggi Province. Once the G line is completed, it will take 30 minutes from Pocheon to Gangnam and 43 minutes to KTX Gwangmyeong Station. This will enable residents of northeastern Gyeonggi to travel anywhere nationwide within half a day.

The newly established H line connects Paju in northwestern Gyeonggi to Wirye New Town in southeastern Gyeonggi. The main stops are Munsan~Geumchon~Samsong~Konkuk University Station~Jamsil~Wirye, with a total length of 60.4 km and a project cost of 4.4954 trillion KRW. Upon completion, it will take 24 minutes from Munsan to Gwanghwamun and 40 minutes to Wirye. This is expected to bring significant changes not only to the commuting of residents in northwestern and southern central Gyeonggi but also to the tourism industry.

Both lines intersect at Konkuk University Station, prioritizing the expansion of GTX services for residents living in northern Gyeonggi.

Additionally, the extension of the C line in Siheung involves extending the C line, which currently operates up to Sangnok-su, to Oido in Siheung. The total length is 14.2 km, with an estimated cost of 94.8 billion KRW. Once the C line extension is completed, travel time from Oido to Samsung Station, which currently takes 84 minutes by subway, will be reduced to 47 minutes.

Gyeonggi Province expects that with the realization of GTX Plus, the GTX beneficiary population will increase significantly from the current 860,000 to 2.32 million.

Gyeonggi Province announced that it will submit the GTX Plus route to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in May and negotiate to have the route reflected in the '5th National Railway Network Plan.'

Meanwhile, Governor Kim Dong-yeon promised at the announcement of Gyeonggi Province's basic railway plan last month, "The most pressing issue for Gyeonggi residents is transportation, and railways are key to solving residents' transportation problems," adding, "We will dramatically improve residents' transportation welfare with faster and safer railway services."
