Czech Ministry of Health: "An Unforgivable Mistake"

A hospital in the Czech Republic mistakenly performed an abortion procedure on a pregnant woman who had come for a regular check-up.

According to CNN Prima News, Prague’s Bulovka University Hospital performed a uterine curettage, a type of abortion procedure that involves scraping the uterine lining, on a pregnant woman who had come for a routine examination on the 25th (local time).

The hospital confused the pregnant woman with another woman who had come for the same uterine curettage procedure around the same time. Czech media reported that both women were foreign-born citizens settled in the Czech Republic.

A spokesperson for Bulovka Hospital apologized, stating, "The investigation revealed that due to a serious internal regulation violation and mistake by the staff involved, the wrong surgical procedure was performed on the patient," and added, "We will dismiss those responsible and provide prompt compensation to the patient and her family."

The Czech Ministry of Health said, "An unforgivable mistake occurred," and reported that those involved have been removed from their duties. Prague police have launched an investigation, charging the hospital with negligence causing injury.

Netizens who heard the news expressed their sorrow, saying, "It’s heartbreaking to imagine how the mother who lost her child must feel," "This is a disastrous event," "An irreversible nightmare of a mistake," and "How could such a thing happen?"
