<Ostrich> Jumping in the Middle of the Road... Captured in Seongnam Within an Hour

It Seems They Escaped from the Ecological Experience Center and Wandered the Streets

An ostrich that escaped from an ecological experience center caused a commotion by running around on a road in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. On the 26th, the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire and Disaster Headquarters reported that a 119 emergency call was received around 9:30 a.m. about an ostrich wandering on a road in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province.


Police and fire authorities who responded to the report searched the nearby roads and found the ostrich around 10:25 a.m. on the premises of a factory building in Sangdaewon-dong, capturing it safely. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage occurred as a result of this incident.

The ostrich was identified to have escaped from a nearby ecological experience center earlier that morning and wandered the streets. The ostrich was handed back to the ecological experience center.


A fire official explained, "We received a related report and worked jointly with the police to capture the ostrich," adding, "No damage or injuries have occurred due to this."

Meanwhile, the ostrich is the largest bird species. Its head height is about 2.4 meters, and its average body weight is around 155 kg. Although its wings have atrophied and it cannot fly, it can run at speeds up to 90 km/h and has a habit of kicking when threatened.
