GS Construction Subsidiary GPC Obtains Low-Carbon Product Certification from Ministry of Environment

GPC, a subsidiary of GS Construction, announced on the 25th that it has obtained low-carbon product certification from the Ministry of Environment for two types of precast concrete (PC) products, marking the first such certification in the industry.
Precast concrete refers to concrete products manufactured in a factory in advance, offering uniform quality and the advantage of saving time and labor on site.
The products that received low-carbon product certification this time are one type of PC column and one type of PC girder (a beam that supports structures by connecting columns). Building owners who use certified low-carbon products can receive additional points for the Green Building Certification (G-SEED) and enjoy benefits such as acquisition tax reductions and relaxation of floor area ratio and building height restrictions, depending on the usage ratio.
The low-carbon product certification is a certification system managed by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment. It certifies products that have reduced carbon emissions by more than 5% additionally among those that have already received the first-stage Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. Recently, with the increase in green building certification sites, demand for eco-friendly products in the construction industry is continuously rising.
GPC proactively responded to the increasing demand for eco-friendly products due to carbon emission regulations and strengthened environmental policies by obtaining Environmental Product Declaration certification in August last year. GPC plans to gradually expand the range of products certified as low-carbon products.
A GS Construction official stated, "With the recent increase in green building certification sites, demand for eco-friendly products in the construction industry is continuously rising. We plan to expand the range of low-carbon product certifications going forward and will not spare investment and support to discover and introduce eco-friendly technologies."
GPC completed a factory in Eumseong, Chungbuk in 2021 and supplies PC products to various fields including Samsung Electronics semiconductor factories, numerous large logistics centers, factories, and underground parking lots of apartments, gradually expanding its business scope. GPC is the only company in the domestic PC industry to have obtained all ISO certifications related to quality, environment, and safety, including ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001. It introduced the 'mineral carbonation carbon reduction concrete manufacturing technology' from the Canadian company CarbonCure and has applied it to mass production of products since 2023.
