Won Hee-ryong, the People Power Party candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul, fiercely criticized Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party and his rival, on the 24th, calling Lee's proposal for livelihood recovery support funds "empty sweet talk."
On the same day, Won wrote on Facebook, "It seems Lee Jae-myung has started again," adding, "He is boasting with empty sweet talk about money he cannot even give." He also pointed out, "The pledge to relocate Gimpo Airport was also just thrown out ahead of the election," and sought to differentiate himself from Lee by saying, "Won Hee-ryong will plant honesty in Gyeyang."
Earlier, Lee toured constituencies classified as 'difficult areas,' such as Jamsil in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and proposed the 'Livelihood Recovery Support Fund' as a measure to resolve the economic crisis.
Lee criticized, "Due to the incompetence and failure of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, people's livelihoods and the economy have completely collapsed. The economy is in total ruin, and prices are skyrocketing." He proposed, "I suggest providing 250,000 KRW per person and an average of 1 million KRW per household as livelihood recovery support funds. Let's distribute it as local currency like the disaster relief funds during COVID-19." He cited the need for a "cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the livelihood economy" to increase consumption through household income support and to restart the stalled economy.
He added, "The required budget is about 13 trillion KRW," and argued, "Compared to the 900 to 1,000 trillion KRW spent on the rich tax cuts and the deceptive populist pledges revealed at the 'Livelihood Discussion without Livelihood' held by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, this is just a drop in the bucket." This is interpreted as a criticism of President Yoon’s recent livelihood policies promised at the 'Livelihood Discussion with the People,' labeling them as populist pledges.
Incheon Gyeyang-eul has elected members from the Democratic Party faction except for the 2010 by-election when Lee Sang-kwon, then a candidate from the Grand National Party, was elected. Currently, Lee Jae-myung is the local member of the National Assembly.
On the 23rd, Won held a press conference for the 'Gyeyang One Team' candidacy at Imhak Intersection in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, saying, "Gyeyang-eul is a place where the sovereigns do not receive the value of their votes, and democracy is being abandoned. We want to remove politics that lies, blames others, refuses to admit any mistakes, and seeks to impeach a government with three years left to avoid their criminal charges. Please create politics in Gyeyang that is not shameful."
