About 80 participants, including employees from Pohang City's Clean Water Business Headquarters and Powell, the company operating the Pohang sewage treatment water reuse facility, removed trash and weeds around the Hyeongsan River's drinking water protection zone and promoted water source protection to citizens walking along the river.

World Water Day was designated on March 22 by the 47th United Nations General Assembly in 1992, following recommendations from the Rio Earth Summit in Brazil. Since 1993, commemorative events have been held to raise awareness of the importance of drinking water, conserve water resources, and promote participation and cooperation among governments, international organizations, and the private sector. South Korea has held government-level ceremonies and events since 1995.

Son Jeong-ho, head of the Clean Water Business Headquarters, said, “On World Water Day, we hope this serves as an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the importance of clean and safe water through their participation and efforts. We will also do our best to create a clean water environment and provide safe water so that all citizens can drink tap water with confidence.”

Pohang City is fully committed to realizing a sustainable future and citizen happiness by establishing systems for safe water management and water welfare, including improving water flow rate and quality through modernization of the water supply network, upgrading water purification facilities, enhancing public sewage treatment facilities, and expanding urban flood prevention projects.
