On this day, the Metal Materials Industry Promotion Agency reported various business plans focused on next-generation secondary battery materials technology, high-performance carbon-neutral future metal materials technology, and digital transformation of the materials industry, aiming to advance materials technology and foster glocal companies in response to paradigm shifts in regional growth strategy industries.

Key projects in the secondary battery sector include the establishment of a future secondary battery materials portfolio diversification demonstration center and the construction of a secondary battery resource recycling platform, leading the development of globally superior technologies.

In the metal materials sector, projects such as the establishment of a high value-added blue steel manufacturing demonstration platform for metal resource recycling to achieve carbon neutrality and the establishment of a reliability evaluation infrastructure for hydrogen steel material parts will support local companies in securing carbon-neutral technologies.

In the digital transformation (DX) field, plans include promoting a digital transformation innovation ecosystem by supporting DX manufacturing innovation for local companies and fostering DX-specialized companies centered on the metal materials DX demonstration platform.

Additionally, to fulfill its role as an open joint research institute for the eco-friendly materials industry, which has expanded from traditional steel to energy materials such as secondary batteries, POMIA plans to further strengthen cooperation with companies, universities, and related research institutions.

Accordingly, POMIA is pursuing a name change of the institution from ‘Pohang Metal Materials Industry Promotion Agency’ to ‘Pohang Materials Industry Promotion Agency’ to reflect the expansion of its business areas in response to changes in core regional industries and industrial environments.

Mayor Lee Gang-deok stated, “We will concentrate all of POMIA’s innovative capabilities on advancing technology in the regional metal industry, entering new markets, and expanding support for the development of superior technologies in the secondary battery materials industry to ensure the continuous growth of the evolving regional industry.”
