According to POSCO Group on the 24th, Chairman Jang visited the No. 2 Hot Rolling Mill at the Pohang Steelworks, which suffered significant damage during the flooding of Naengcheon in Pohang, as his first on-site visit on his first working day since assuming the chairmanship on the 22nd.
During the 100 days, Chairman Jang plans to directly listen to employees at the group’s major business sites in Pohang, Gwangyang, and Songdo, and immediately improve necessary matters to create a company that employees can trust. His first on-site management emphasized informal communication by meeting in small groups with field workers who know the equipment and technology best.
The No. 2 Hot Rolling Mill is a key plant that handles 5 million tons, about 33% of the annual production at Pohang Steelworks. It is the place that achieved normalization within 100 days after flooding during the Hinamnor typhoon recovery, thanks to world-class maintenance and operation technology and employees’ efforts.
Chairman Jang is reported to have greeted each employee by shaking hands. He said, "I am proud and grateful to all of you who achieved normalization with dedicated efforts and unity despite the unprecedented and challenging situation. I wanted to be the first to express my gratitude for your hard work that turned harsh trials into new hope."
He then continued informal communication with Pohang Steelworks employees who stayed at the site day and night during the flood recovery at the company cafeteria. At this gathering, Chairman Jang said, "The passion and unity you showed during the flood recovery process are the true strength of POSCO. I will never forget your hard work," adding, "I believe the solution to becoming a top-tier company lies with the field and the employees."
Chairman Jang also visited the No. 2 Blast Furnace Plant, where the blast furnace overhaul is underway, to check on current issues and encourage employees, engaging in sincere conversations throughout the sites. On the 26th, he plans to move to Gwangyang to visit Gwangyang Steelworks and POSCO Future M, continuing on-site management until June 28, marking 100 days since his inauguration.
Meanwhile, before his first on-site visit, Chairman Jang visited the POSCO Labor Union and the Labor-Management Council offices, urging both labor and management to work together to create an advanced labor-management culture based on trust.
