Pohang City Hall, POSCO Group's Secondary Battery Industry Value Chain Sculpture Exhibition Draws Attention

Pohang City is exhibiting the POSCO Holdings secondary battery industry display sculpture, which was showcased at the recent ‘InterBattery 2024,’ in the lobby on the 2nd floor of the city hall.

This exhibition was realized as POSCO Group actively responded to Mayor Lee Kang-deok’s request after he personally visited the ‘InterBattery 2024’ site.

The sculpture on display was created in a circular structure that circulates to illustrate POSCO Group’s secondary battery material value chain and flow, as seen at Korea’s largest battery expo, ‘InterBattery 2024.’

POSCO Group’s eco-friendly resource circulation system (Closed Loop), which progresses step-by-step from raw materials such as lithium and nickel for secondary battery materials to cathode and anode materials and recycling, is well represented, providing a unique attraction for citizens visiting the city hall.

POSCO Group is rapidly transforming from a steel company into a secondary battery material company and is completing a value chain capable of supplying everything from raw materials for secondary battery materials to final materials such as cathode and anode materials.

Additionally, they have completed a cathode material production plant in Yeongilman Industrial Complex and an artificial graphite anode material plant in Blue Valley National Industrial Complex, and are actively continuing investment in Pohang, including starting construction of a silicon anode material plant.

The exhibition is held in the 2nd-floor lobby, the area most frequented by citizens, and it is expected to promote the overall secondary battery industry to many citizens.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok emphasized, “I hope citizens feel the changing Pohang through the exhibition of the secondary battery industry, a new growth engine of POSCO that once led steel-based national development,” and added, “We will realize battery-based national development contributing to the country’s progress together with the citizens.”

Pohang is advancing as a leading city in the secondary battery sector by hosting national representative secondary battery material companies such as POSCO Future M and EcoPro. With the designation of a specialized secondary battery complex and the expansion of industrial complex infrastructure supported by the government, the city is completing its industrial ecosystem faster than any other city.
