Busan Library will hold a week-long series of diverse cultural events including lectures, performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences from April 12 to 18 in celebration of 'Library Day' and 'Library Week.'
'Library Day' falls on April 12 and has been designated as a legal commemorative day since 2023 to celebrate the dissemination of the social and cultural value of libraries and to promote their use.
Additionally, 'Library Week' has been observed since 1964, running annually from April 12 to 18, during which libraries nationwide operate various programs to actively promote the value and necessity of libraries to local residents and encourage library usage.
During this period, libraries across the country contribute to spreading local reading culture by hosting various reading culture events and programs.
This year’s event, themed "Library, Preserving Your Tomorrow," aims to enhance Busan citizens' understanding and interest in libraries and to encourage their use through a variety of programs.
Main events include ▲April 12: 'Lecture by Author Lee Chung-nyung' in celebration of Library Day ▲April 13: 'Picture Book Cultural Performance' and 'Everyday Upcycling Experience' ▲April 14: 'Parent Education Talk Concert with Shin Sung-wook' ▲April 16?18: 'Three-Person, Three-Color Relay Special Lectures' ▲April 12?18: 'Double Book Loan Day.'
Gang Eun-hee, Director of Busan Library, stated, “In celebration of Library Day and Library Week, we have prepared various programs for Busan citizens to enjoy reading culture,” adding, “As Busan’s representative library, we will do our best to ensure that citizens can enjoy a high-quality reading culture in their daily lives.”
