Putin, Certain of 5th Term Victory: "Russia Must Become Stronger"

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on the 17th (local time), after virtually securing his fifth term in the presidential election, that "Russia must be stronger and more effective."

After the election ended that day, President Putin visited his campaign headquarters set up at Gostiny Dvor in Moscow and made these remarks. He expressed gratitude to the Russian people who participated in the vote, saying, "We are all one team." He also mentioned the soldiers involved in the war in Ukraine, saying, "Today, especially, I thank our warriors."

President Putin emphasized, "The source of Russia's power is the Russian people," and added, "It is impossible to suppress the will of Russians from outside."

Known as the "modern-day czar," President Putin has virtually secured his fifth term with overwhelming support in the Russian presidential election held from the 15th to this day. According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Center VTsIOM, exit polls showed Putin's vote share at 87%. The Russian Central Election Commission also announced that with 60% of the votes counted, Putin's vote share was in the 87% range. With this election victory, President Putin will extend his regime until 2030.
