Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, described Hwang Sang-mu, Senior Secretary for Civil Society at the Presidential Office, who mentioned the 'Journalist Stabbing Terror Incident,' on the 16th as saying, "Is this something a person with a normal mind would say?"
On the same day, at the Suji District Office plaza in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, Lee said, "Is it a joke for a key aide to the president, who is at the core of power, to say to a specific media outlet, '(Did you know the reporter was stabbed twice with a kitchen knife)?'"
He continued, "The fact that such words are spoken so freely starting from the Presidential Office shows that this country has been pushed into a battleground of confrontation."
Lee emphasized, "In a democratic society, freedom of the press is like air," adding, "However, the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is blocking mouths and ears and covering eyes, denying democracy as a whole."
Earlier, the Democratic Party again called for Hwang's dismissal. Kwon Chil-seung, chief spokesperson, stated in a written briefing that day, "Immediately dismiss 'Press Intimidation Secretary Hwang Sang-mu,'" and argued, "This is not an issue that can be quietly passed over with Hwang's apology. Responsible conduct is not an apology but resignation."
