According to major foreign media citing the Japan Meteorological Agency, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred at 0:14 on the 15th in the eastern part of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
The epicenter was offshore of Fukushima Prefecture, where seismic intensity 5 was detected. However, no tsunami warning was issued.
No casualties have been reported due to the earthquake. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) stated that it is investigating any abnormalities at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. According to NHK, seismic intensity 5 shaking was observed, leading TEPCO to suspend the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the magnitude as 5.6. The epicenter was located 23.8 km southwest of Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, at a depth of 53.1 km.
