Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Kang Jun-seok) held a briefing session on the 13th at the BPA headquarters auditorium and the target site for the architectural design proposal contest for the new Gamman and Gamman Pier building facilities at Busan Port.
At this briefing session attended by related companies wishing to participate in the contest, BPA provided guidance on the background and basic direction of the project, key guidelines for the design contest, and preparation instructions.
BPA plans to receive design proposals by the 29th, conduct evaluations in April, and select the winning design.
The design contest targets six buildings (total floor area of 3,600㎡) including the operation building of the new Gamman Pier, maintenance factory, workers' waiting room, and a gas station within berth No. 1 of Gamman Pier.
BPA is investing a total project cost of 11.5 billion KRW to expand facilities to support the smooth operation of Korea Hutchison Terminal, which is relocating its business base from Jaseongdae Pier to berth No. 1 of the new Gamman and Gamman Pier, and to improve the working environment for port workers.
To ensure the successful relocation from Jaseongdae Pier, BPA has been conducting architectural planning services, the first step for building expansion, since July last year and completed it in November, aiming for project completion in 2026.
Lee Sang-kwon, Head of BPA’s Construction Headquarters, said, “The relocation of an operating pier is an unprecedented and significant matter in the history of Busan Port,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure the building expansion project proceeds smoothly to handle cargo volume without disruption and improve working conditions for workers.”
