A man in his 40s who approached a driver pretending to be a designated driver, threatened the driver with a weapon, and attempted to seize the vehicle has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Nae-geon) announced on the 12th that they have arrested and indicted a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of special robbery and attempted special robbery for threatening a driver with a weapon while pretending to be a designated driver.
According to the prosecution, Mr. A is accused of attempting to seize a vehicle by threatening the driver with a weapon at around 6:50 a.m. on the 17th of last month in the parking lot of an apartment building in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, but fled after the attempt failed.
At the time, Mr. A stopped the vehicle and, saying "Did you call a designated driver?" got into the front passenger seat, according to the investigation.
During the police investigation, Mr. A was identified as the same suspect who, on the 14th of the same month in Dapsimni-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, after giving a designated driving customer a ride, tied the customer's hands and feet with cable ties and threatened them with a knife to steal cash and other items.
