Samsung Display is making full-scale investments by establishing the world's first 8.6-generation IT organic light-emitting diode (OLED) line.
On the 10th, Samsung Display announced that it held the 'A6 Line Equipment Installation Ceremony' on the 8th at its Asan Campus in Chungnam, marking the official start of the construction work for the 8.6-generation IT OLED line.
The A6 line is an 8.6-generation IT-dedicated OLED line built by remodeling Samsung Display's existing L8 line. It will be Samsung's sixth OLED line and, upon completion, will be the highest-generation OLED line in the world.
Samsung Display recently completed cleanroom construction within the new line and brought in the deposition equipment necessary to convert OLED organic materials into display pixels. Starting with this, the company plans to install major equipment within the year and begin full-scale mass production from 2026.
In April last year, Samsung Display announced an investment of 4.1 trillion won in the IT OLED sector by 2026 to establish a line capable of producing 10 million laptop panels annually. Additionally, in 2019, it became the first in the industry to commercialize IT OLED. Last year alone, it collaborated with 17 global laptop brands to release more than 50 types of OLEDs for laptops.
Choi Ju-seon, President of Samsung Display, said, "Based on the OLED technology accumulated over a long period, Samsung Display is preparing for a major transformation in the IT market following mobile. We will focus the capabilities of our employees and executives into a solid cooperative system with global partners and do our best to mass-produce 8.6-generation IT OLED."
