The People Power Party's April 10 general election nomination management committee on the 9th gave priority nomination (strategic nomination) to Yoo Kyung-jun (Seoul Gangnam-byeong) for the newly established Hwaseong-jeong district in Gyeonggi Province.
At a briefing held at the Yeouido party headquarters on the same day, Nomination Committee Chairman Jung Young-hwan stated, "Representative Yoo is the People Power Party's top economic expert, and the nomination committee judged him to be the right person to present the economic growth blueprint of Hwaseong City, which is developing day by day, to the citizens of Hwaseong."
Representative Yoo was previously cut off in his current district, Seoul Gangnam-byeong, but by moving districts, he was able to challenge for re-election.
Hwaseong-jeong corresponds to Dongtan 1 New Town and was newly created due to electoral district delimitation in this general election. For the Democratic Party, preliminary candidates Cho Dae-hyun, Jeon Yong-gi, and Jin Seok-beom are competing in a three-way primary, and Lee Won-wook, a member of the Reform New Party, has declared his candidacy here.
In addition, the People Power Party's nomination committee gave priority nomination to Kim Yoo-sung, former president of the Jeonnam Korean Detective Association, for the Jeonnam Damyang-Hampyeong-Yeonggwang-Jangseong district. With this, the People Power Party has completed nominations for all Honam districts for the first time in 16 years.
Along with this, candidates for Gyeonggi Hwaseong-byeong (former Hwaseong Mayor Choi Young-geun) and Bucheon-byeong (Ha Jong-dae, former Channel A) were also decided through priority nomination.
