"Park Il-ho Involved in Inappropriate Incident, Currently Reported to Prosecutors"

The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee resolved on the 8th to cancel the nomination of candidate Park Il-ho, who had been confirmed as the nominee for the Gyeongnam Miryang-Uiryeong-Haman-Changnyeong district.

The People Power Party nominated candidate Park Sang-ung for the same district.

On the day, Nomination Management Committee Chairman Jeong Young-hwan announced the results of the nomination review at a briefing at the Yeouido party headquarters, stating, "The nomination of candidate Park Il-ho, confirmed through the primary election, has been canceled, and the recommendation of candidate Park Sang-ung was re-approved by the Emergency Response Committee."

People Power Party (Miryang Uiryeong Haman Changnyeong) district candidate Park Sang-ung for the April 10 general election.

Chairman Jeong explained, "Candidate Park Il-ho is currently under prosecution for being involved in an inappropriate incident during his tenure as mayor of Miryang, which we judged to fall short of the moral standards emphasized by the People Power Party."

According to the party regulations of the People Power Party, even if a candidate's nomination is confirmed, if it is found that there is a significant defect such as bribery, the Emergency Response Committee can invalidate the candidate's recommendation by resolution.

Candidate Park Il-ho's nomination was confirmed through the primary on the 1st, but candidate Park Sang-ung, who lost in the primary, filed a provisional injunction with the court to suspend the nomination's effect, arguing that "deducting 30% of the vote share due to a loss 32 years ago was an unfair decision."

Candidate Park Sang-ung has served as deputy director of the Central Training Institute, member of the Talent Recruitment Committee, and vice chairman of the Central Committee within the party, and after President Yoon Seok-yeol's election, he served as an advisory member of the Presidential Transition Committee.
