"Experts, Citizens, and Others Should Form a New Consultative Body for Re-discussion"

Mid-sized construction company Hanyang criticized the ‘Gwangju Central Park District 1 Private Park Special Project Public Debate’ held by Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 6th as being hastily conducted and proposed forming a new consultative body to hold another debate.

On the 7th, Hanyang stated, “Although Gwangju City announced that it would hold a public debate to enhance transparency and public interest, the debate was hastily concluded without any disclosure of project-related materials and with an absolutely insufficient preparation time,” adding, “A genuine ‘social consensus’ must be achieved by providing materials in advance, forming a social consensus organization, and conducting thorough reviews. In this regard, such a debate is meaningless.”

They further proposed, “We suggest disclosing the calculation basis for project costs such as service fees and commissions, and forming a consultative body including Hanyang, the Special Purpose Corporation (SPC), Gwangju City Council, civic groups, experts, and citizens to hold a public debate again by the end of this month.”

Hanyang also requested that their proposed pre-sale project plan at 19.9 million KRW per 3.3㎡ be included in the discussion. Hanyang had previously expressed their intention to supply at 19.9 million KRW per pyeong, arguing that the sale price presented by the Chonnam National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, commissioned by Gwangju City, was inflated for the benefit of certain businesses. They stated, “The pre-sale plan at the 19.9 million KRW level is feasible, and we will supply responsibly,” and added, “We ask Gwangju City to proceed with discussions including both Hanyang’s 19.9 million KRW pre-sale project plan and the SPC’s project plan.”
