Global pop star Taylor Swift posted a message encouraging voting on 'Super Tuesday,' a pivotal moment in the U.S. presidential primary race.

On the 5th (local time), Swift wrote on her Instagram, "I hope you vote for the person who best represents you," adding, "If you haven't voted yet, vote today." Swift's Instagram followers number 282 million. It is reported that she registered as a voter in Tennessee early and has already completed her mail-in ballot.

The New York Times (NYT) noted, "The message was simple and bipartisan, containing no indication of support for any candidate," but added, "However, this alone could provoke anger from MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporters and outlets like Fox News." MAGA refers to the core supporters of former President Donald Trump.

Previously, Swift publicly expressed support for President Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election. However, she has not taken any stance regarding this election.

The Trump campaign, effectively the Republican presidential candidate, has openly been wary of Swift, who enjoys explosive popularity among young Americans, potentially siding with President Biden. In particular, among MAGA supporters, conspiracy theories have spread claiming that Swift is a secret agent for the Department of Defense helping Biden secure re-election.

However, the NYT also suggested the possibility that Swift, who likes to hide secret meanings in her song lyrics, may have left a covert message this time as well. In her Instagram post, Swift mentioned that primaries were being held in 16 states including Tennessee, but strictly speaking, primaries are held in only 15 states, and in Iowa, only the Democratic caucus takes place.
